... You're in danger.
[ it's not until Sunday evening that Hikage tracks down Akechi, wherever he might be. To be honest, Hikage still looks like garbage; his pants and some of his sleeve are stained with blood from dealing with Stephanie's grievous injury earlier in the day, and he looks more like a dead man than he ever has, his skin pale and eyes dark. The manic energy buzzing in his pupiles when he talks to Akechi is essentially absent - or it might be more accurate to say it's diffused across his whole body. He's taught with some kind of stress.
Basically, he looks bad. But he's not dead. Which surprises him, considering how close Stephanie got to dying this morning and how close he came to taking care of himself last night. For some reason, he's still clinging to survival. ]

[that's one way to start a conversation. funnily enough, it doesn't get much of a reaction out of Akechi. merely quirked brows and a knowing smile, as he pulls his pleasant boy mask back together for Hikage and Hikage only]
I've been in danger since Takamaki outed my crime to the entire castle.
You, on the other hand, look as though you're about to snap.
no subject
But he'll figure that out later. For the moment, he goes on, pointedly ignoring Akechi's statement. ]
They killed that Fitz this week. You're probably next on the list... Especially after we failed.
no subject
They killed Fitzgerald, and yet still implicated an innocent, despite the fact that I was right there, fresh for execution.
Do you really think this group is capable of making wise decisions?

[ he's not giving you his gun again!! ]

[and then suddenly, there's a burst of blue flame, of ethereal fire that doesn't burn nor scorch despite the way it swirls to life, dances around Akechi's form, obscuring his entire body from view. when the blaze disperses, Akechi is left standing there, waering something different while a semi-transparent creature hovers in the air above him]
[hm]
[hmmmmm]

no, seriously, what the fuck. Naturally, Hikage stumbles backwards when this happens, one hand instinctively flying to his pistol; when Loki's fully visible, he already has the gun trained on it. He's familiar with fighting monsters, and at first, he thinks Akechi has called one, somehow. With the way his appearance has changed - cloaked in darkness, like a soul falling into despair and losing its humanity - it seems perfectly reasonable.
In a sense, he's right. But there's also clearly something different going on. When the first few seconds pass and neither the monster nor Akechi attack him, he lowers his gun a few inches, though he remains tensed. ]
What is that?
no subject
This is Loki.
[he answers, voice even. confident. arrogant]
The "monster I can summon from my psyche," as the tapestry so helpfully put it.
no subject
[ again, it's only because he's familiar with monsters and the supernatural that he can just accept this so easily. It's a monster Akechi can summon. His appearance changed with his willpower - his psyche. That makes sense. It also convinces Hikage that this world they're in must exist outside of reality, like the in-between did.
He still doesn't lower his gun. ]

[his second wish at the hands of the well. a wish that worked out for him far, far better than his first]
no subject
... Fine. You convinced me.
[ Akechi could probably kill any of them with something like that on his side. He's almost jealous. Which brings him to the other point he had. ]
Put it away. There's... something else I wanted to talk to you about.
no subject
What is it? I'm all ears.
no subject
... That thing I said to you the other day... I was wrong. [ he does not elaborate on which "thing" he means. It's probably something he should apologize for, but he doesn't do that, either - he just looks to the side. ] ... It's not too late.
no subject
[ah. . .]
. . . I'm sorry?
[he isn't sure he heard Hikage correctly, so he quickly asks for clarification]
It isn't too late for. . .?
no subject
[ he doesn't sound anywhere near confident when he says it, as one might expect from his bedraggled appearance... but he says it nonetheless, glancing back up. ]

To change the course of this narrative.
[he repeats, albeit in slightly different terms, as he recalls their last conversation]
You never told me which narrative you were speaking of.
no subject
[ he's scum - he's the worst kind of person there is. He does nothing but lie and steal and disappoint. That's why he became the master of the manor; reveling in it was the only way he could cope with it. He knew he couldn't find happiness anywhere else in the world.
He thought he knew that, at least... But there are people here who were willing to forgive him, even so. ]
... You're like me. That's why I'm telling you. Unlike me, you don't have the luxury of waiting a hundred years for someone to prove you wrong.
no subject
[Akechi scoffs, immediately looking away from Hikage, immediately adjusting his tie with a tigh expression]
I have no qualms with the direction in which my narrative is going.
[he replies, tone curt. he beat Kurusu. he came here, but he killed a man and got away with it and got a wish. there are people who have forgiven him as well, and as foolish as he thinks they are, he can use them to his advantage. all he has to do is survive. . . and go home, where he can finally complete his years-long quest for revenge]
[Akechi is doing just fine]
[that's what he tells himself]
