[ here's a familiar sight: it's Hikage, coming to Cardia's door, bearing food. It's well into the evening when he appears, knocking at her door. This time, he has a tray with two skewers of mitarashi dango on it - unlike the previous times, however, they don't appear to have been touched, and there's no tea with it. They're something he cooked specifically to share with her this time. ]

[ When she answers the door, she looks... honestly, like a hollow-eyed wreck. Her eyes are red-rimmed, she's pale and exhausted-looking, and she kind of just wants to go to sleep.

But here she is. ]

... Hikage.

[psychedelica]

[ he's not going to bother asking if she's okay, because it's obviously pointless - whatever emotions she may or may not have as a homunculus, she's clearly feeling one right now, and it's definitely bad. Instead, he just picks up one of the dango skewers and holds it out to her. ]

... I made this for you. Take it.

[discardia]

... You didn't have to.

[ She has no appetite at the moment, but she'll automatically reach out to take it. ]

[psychedelica]

You needed it.

[ He does feel pity for her, oddly. Maybe it's because she's not human - she doesn't deserve to be subjected to all this sound and fury and death that they've caused. Or maybe it's because her innocence and honesty reminds him of someone. ]

I don't know why you were born, but I'm sure it wasn't to deal with things like this. [ a beat. ] I don't think you deserve to suffer.

[ unlike the rest of them. it's still hard for him to care about the majority of his peers here. ]

[discardia]

... I don't think anyone here really deserves to suffer.

[ Though she appreciates the sentiment. ]

But it seems like... that's all they want us to do here. Suffer, or cause it.

[psychedelica]

[ at that, he shrugs his shoulders, although he does actually share her belief. ]

Dragon says she doesn't. I don't believe her, but that's what she told me.

[ he has a letter in his pocket; he wonders if he should tell Cardia about that, or about the mirror. The possibility of the dead returning. It's something he was already too familiar with before he even came here, and he's hesitant to put stock in it after what happened to him last time. ]

... You can see the dead again. She told me that, too.

[discardia]

... See them again? I know Ion's letter implied that they were at least-- somewhere else...

[ But what even-- ]

[psychedelica]

I don't know how. But that's what she said. She said I could see my sister again, too.

[ who he probably hasn't actually brought up with Cardia before, but whatever. ]

And I got a letter from Jae-ha... so I believe her.

[discardia]

... You too?

[psychedelica]

Yeah.

[ it didn't actually say anything useful on it... but he takes it out of his pocket, anyway. It's real!! ]

[discardia]

... I wonder if he knew he was going to die. Or if he wrote them, just in case.

[psychedelica]

[ at that, he's silent. ]

... I get the feeling that he knew. My letter isn't like the other ones I've seen.

[discardia]

... What do you mean?

[psychedelica]

Nothing's been blacked out like in the other letters... There's no information about the game or what might have happened to him, either. It's more like his final words to each of us.

[discardia]

... I can't believe he took the time to do this.

[ Jae-ha!!!! ]

[psychedelica]

[ Hikage can totally believe it, but. ]

... I wonder if he knew his killer.

I feel like he knew everyone. I feel like it's a shame they can't tell us that much from where they are.
