[ happy murder's eve, steph!! maybe hikage is in a celebratory mood, too; usually, he has his tea before bed. Tonight, however, he returns to their room with a different beverage. There's a whole-ass bottle of red wine with him, along with drinking glasses! Two of them. ]

Good. [ he puts one of the glasses into her outstretched hand. ] Then you can take this.

[ she will happily accept the glass, but she does tilt her head slightly once it hits her what's going on. ]

What's the occasion?

[ he tilts his head back at her, and then shrugs. ]

Tomorrow and the day after are going to be miserable. We might as well do something fun. [ a beat. ] ... If you need a reason, consider it a token of my appreciation.

[ for telling him about the viziers thing... and for putting up with him for this long. ]

[ she places a hand over her heart. ]

"Party" is a strong word. It's just us.

[ a lame party... maybe he should have invited Belph. Anyway, he sets his own glass down and starts to pour himself some. Come to think of it, he doesn't think he's ever had wine before. His father probably traded it, but he'd still been a kid at the time... ]

[ she holds her glass out...

[ consider yourself wined, Stephanie. He pours her some, too, then sits on the bed when he's done. ]

[ he's safe... he holds out his glass to her. ]

[ he snorts at that as he takes a sip. ]

Fun for you. You all just wanted to get a rise out of me.

[ she makes a face, scrunching up her nose. ]

[ a look of amusement. ]

... The moment I get aggressive with you, you get embarrassed. You can dish it out, but you can't take it... Isn't that how the saying goes?

[ she takes a sip of her wine. :) ]

I haven't had enough to drink yet to show you.

[ she takes another sip. ]

[ he gives her a look for a second - then shakes his head, smiling a little. ]

You're pretty brazen. [ he already knew that, though... ] ... Are you going to be safe tonight?

[ every Thursday could be the last day he sees her. Technically, he's known that the entire time - but it didn't really sink in until now. Before, he'd only cared about her as a liability; if something happened to her, it'd put him in a precarious position. That was what he'd convinced himself, anyway. Looking back, he thinks he's probably cared about her as Stephanie Brown and not just his partner for a lot longer than he'd want to admit. ]

Yeah, I'll be fine.

[ she's definitely not going to be okay the rest of the weekend though! ha ha.

but she can't really say that she won't be. it's not like she knows. ]

[ YEAH, GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND STEPH ]

Good. [ he's not sure he trusts her, but he's also well aware that she won't listen if he orders her around - and that he has his own limits in this castle. ] Then stay here with me.

[ at least he's realized that she has no idea what listening to people is. ]

Are you worried about any unsupervised sleepovers?
